News : Sony Xperia TX, T and V benchmark scores are here

The Xperia TX, Xperia T and Xperia V are all of them running on dual-core processors, using the new Krait architecture and clocked at 1.5 GHz. There's still some doubt about the GPUs, but all three tested units reported rocking Adreno 225.

The Krait cores helped the three new Xperias pass the BenchmarkPi with flying colors - none of the quad-core smartphones currently on the market could come anywhere near their achievement. To be fair, though, BenchmarkPi doesn't make use of the multi-core architectures, so the dual-core Kraits have an advantage here.

The NenaMark 2 results of the Sony Xperia T, TX and V proves that the three new smartphones are Adreno 225-powered. The kind of framerates that the new Sony smartphones achieved are beyond the capabilities of any of the previous Qualcomm mobile GPUs.

News (IFA) : Samsung Unveils EK-GC100 Galaxy Camera Running Android 4.1

Following Nikon steps with its Coolpix S800c, Samsung announced their own Android camera. Samsung EK-GC100 camera features an Exynos 4412 quad core Cortex A9 processor, a 4.8″ touchscreen display (1280×720), Wi-Fi and 3G or 4G connectivity (depending on model), a 16MP camera with a 21X optical zoom, and runs Android Jelly Bean.

News (IFA) Samsung ATIV S is the first official Windows Phone 8 smartphone

The Galaxy Note II wasn’t the only flagship device that Samsung announced at its pre-IFA press conference. The company has also revealed the first ever Windows Phone 8 smartphone – the Samsung ATIV S.

The ATIV S is built around a 4.8-inch Super AMOLED display of HD resolution and has Gorilla Glass 2 on top for extra protection. Powering the smartphone is a 1.5GHz dual-core Qualcomm Krait processor and 1GB of RAM. At the back, there’s an 8MP camera with 1.9MP snapper at the front.

   

Measuring 137.2 mm x 70.5 mm x 8.7 mm the Samsung ATIV S weighs 135 grams and packs a beefy 2,300mAh battery. Connectivity options include Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n, Bluetooth 3 and NFC. Windows Phone 8 supports memory expansion slots and the Samsung ATIV S makes use of that, bringing a microSD card slot to allow expansion of its 16GB or 32GB built-in storage.

Pricing and availability is yet to be confirmed, but we're guessing the smartphone will hit the shelves immediately after Microsoft officially releases the Windows Phone 8 OS.

Making the Samsung ATIV S company are three new Windows 8-powered tablets – the 10.1” ATIV Tab, and two 11.6” ATIV Smart PC and ATIV Smart PC Pro.

News (IFA) Samsung Galaxy Camera is powered by Android

Most smartphones feature cameras. But the Samsung Galaxy Camera is something else — it’s first and foremost a camera with a high quality lens. It just happens to have the elements of a decent smartphone or media player including a 4.8 inch touchscreen LCD and Android 4.1 Jelly Bean operating system.

The Galaxy Camera doesn’t just let you snap photos. You can also edit them on the device and upload them to Facebook, Twitter, or anywhere else using a WiFi, 3G, or 4G connection.

You can’t make phone calls with the camera, but if you use the mobile broadband features, you can instantly post your photos online wherever you have a wireless signal.

Samsung also bakes in a feature that lets you automatically backup photos to the cloud or sync them across other devices that use Samsung AllShare including a Galaxy S III smartphone or Galaxy Note smartphone.

The camera has a 16 megapixel sensor and a 21x zoom lens.

While this is a camera, the spec-list reads like a data sheet for a smartphone. The Galaxy Camera features a 1.4 GHz quad-core processor, 8GB of built-in storage, and a 1650mAh battery. There’s also a microSD card for extra storage.

It features support for the Google Play Store, which provides access to thousands of Android apps, games, and other digital content.

This isn’t the first Android-powered camera we’ve seen. Nikon recently introduced the Coolpix S800c with Android. But Samsung isn’t just a camera maker slapping Android onto a point-and-shoot. The company is one of the top makers of Android smartphones, makes its own mobile processors, and has also been selling cameras for a while.

News (IFA) Samsung introduces Galaxy Note II, with an even bigger display

Samsung unveiled its second-generation Galaxy Note smartphone today. It has a slightly larger screen, a faster processor, and a bigger battery — but the Galaxy Note II will actually be a hair thinner than the original Galaxy Note.

The Galaxy Note II continues to blur the lines between phones and tablets with a larger 5.5 inch display. It has a 1280 x 720 pixel display resolution, which is actually a little lower than the 1280 x 800 pixel screen found on the original, but I doubt most people will notice much difference.

By shaving a few pixels, Samsung has given the new model a 16:9 display which should handle HD video playback quite nicely.

Like all members of the Note family, the Galaxy Note II features an S-Pen, which is what Samsung likes to call its pressure-sensitive digital pens. Samsung also loads up the Galaxy Note II with pen-friendly apps including a new “Air View” features that lets you preview pictures, email messages, or other content by hovering the pen over the screen.

The tablet measures 9.4mm, which is a fraction of a milometer thinner than its predecessor, even though the new model has a 3100mAh battery instead of a 2500mAh battery.

But enough about what the phone looks like. It’s what’s inside that counts — and on the inside, the Galaxy Note II looks an awful lot like its larger sibling, the Galaxy Note 10.1.

The new smartphone has a 1.6 GHz quad-core Exynos processor, 2GB of RAM, a front-facing 1.9MP camera, and a rear-facing 8MP camera. It will be available with 16GB to 64GB of storage.

Samsung will ship the device with Android 4.1 when it launches in Europe in October. For cellular data, the device will be able to handle HSPA+ or 4G LTE networks.

News (IFA) Samsung ATIV Tab Windows RT tablet on the way

Samsung’s Windows 8 tablets should hit the streets in late October. But they won’t be Samsung’s only tablets running a Microsoft operating system.

Samsung is also introducing a 10 inch Windows RT tablet called the ATIV Tab.

The ATIV Tab features a 1.5 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 dual-core processor and Microsoft’s new version of Windows designed to run on devices with ARM chips.

As such, the ATIV Tab won’t be able to run older Windows apps designed for computers with x86 processors (which covers pretty much every Windows PC you’ve ever used). But the tablet will be able to handle Metro-style apps from the Windows Store, as well as desktop-style apps that have been ported to run on ARM chips.

The tablet has a 1366 x 768 pixel display, a 1.9MP front-facing camera, a 5MP rear camera, a USB port, and uHDMI port.

It supports WiFi, Bluetooth, and NFC, 2GB of RAM, and the tablet will be available with 32Gb to 64GB of storage.

The Samsung ATIV Tab measures 0.35 inches thick and weighs 1.25 pounds.

News (IFA) Xperia TX: Think Xperia T with S3 Snapdragon and removable battery

Sony Mobile’s new flagship is the Xperia T (LT30p ‘Mint’), but it confirmed that in certain markets Sony will instead launch theXperia TX (LT29i ‘Hayabusa’). This is exactly what we previously speculated given the very close proximity in terms of specifications between the two handsets.

However, whilst Sony may be passing off the Xperia TX as a replacement for the Xperia T, it will sport an inferior processor. The Xperia TX will come with a 45nm Qualcomm Snapdragon S3 MSM8260 chipset (1.5GHz dual-core with Adreno 220 GPU), rather than the 28nm Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 MSM8260A chipset (1.5GHz dual-core with Adreno 225 GPU) found in the Xperia T. 

The Xperia TX will also have a removable 1750mAh battery good for 6 hours and 40 minutes of GSM talk time. The Xperia T will have a higher capacity (1850mAh) embedded battery. In terms of size the Sony Xperia TX has dimensions of 131 x 68.6 x 8.6 mm and will weigh 127 grams. This makes it both thinner and lighter than the Xperia T which has dimensions of 129.4 x 67.3 x 9.35 mm and will weigh 139 grams.

Apart from these differences, the handset will feature the same 4.55-inch (720 x 1280) high resolution display, 16GB internal memory (2.5 GB of firmware, 2 GB of phone memory and 10.8 GB for media), microSD, 13MP camera, 1.3MP front camera, NFC and MHL. The Sony Xperia TX will be available in three colours (black, pink and white) when it launches in select markets in the next few weeks. The Sony Xperia T will also be available in three colours (black, gold and white) but won’t come in pink.

News (IFA) Xperia T, Xperia V and Xperia J formally announced

Sony Mobile has just announced three new smartphones at the IFA 2012 press conference. They include the Sony Xperia T (LT30p), Xperia V (LT25i) and Xperia J (ST26i/ST26a). The Xperia T (Mint) and Xperia J (JLo) have been discussed at length before, but the Xperia V is a mystery.

The company also confirmed the Sony Xperia Tablet S which has been leaked so extensively recently. We’ll bring you more news on each of these products in separate posts shortly.

News (IFA) Sony Xperia V: 4.3-inch HD display, MSM8960, 13MP camera, water resistant

Sony has just unveiled the Xperia V (LT25i) at IFA 2012 and it was the best-kept secret out of all of the devices announced today, having seen very few leaks in terms of specs and design. The Sony Xperia V sports a 4.3-inch (720 x 1280) display and will run the Snapdragon S4 MSM8960 chipset (1.5Ghz dual-core and Adreno 225 GPU). It has 1GB RAM, 8GB internal memory (1.2 GB firmware; 2 GB of “Phone memory” and 3.7 GB for media) with microSD memory card support.

It will come with a 13MP Exmor R camera capable of shooting 1080p video and a VGA front camera. This particular version (LT25i) will have LTE, but we understand that a HSPA+ version (LT25h) will also appear at some point. Other features include a 1750mAh battery and micro-sim. The handset will come in black, white and pink colours. It weighs just 120g and has reasonably svelte dimensions (129 x 65 x 10.7 mm). The handset will launch globally in calendar Q4 2012.

Leaks : New 10-inch HTC tablet leaks ahead of IFA

An as-yet-unnamed 10″ tablet from HTC just leaked, showing off a rather unconventional design.

The new tablet is scheduled to be revealed at IFA in the coming days, when we’ll hopefully find out more about why the camera is below the screen rather than above.

Camera aside, the ample bezel along the bottom provides plenty of space for gripping, and we all know how handy this is on a 10-inch tablet.

Perhaps you’ll be able to rotate the device so that the camera gets positioned above the screen, with auto-rotation doing the rest of the work for you, but then the whole tablet will look somewhat awkward. Plus the placing of the HTC logo on the back suggests that this is not how the slate was meant to be used.

Either way, we’ll know more about the new tablet in the coming days at IFA, where HTC will supposedly announce it officially.

News Sony Xperia GX (Japan) and Xperia ion (India) Ship to Store Now

Finally this awesome beast we featured it on many news and leak picture has finally went public at last

It features a 4.6 inch display of 720p resolution, dual-core 1.5 GHz Snapdragon S4 processor, 13 MP camera and 1 GB of RAM, all running on Android 4.0.4 ICS. The curved back is reminiscent of last year's Xperia Arc, measuring 11.5 mm at its thickest point.

Unfortunately, it appears that the GX is currently exclusive to the Japanese market, but there are rumors that Sony will be unveiling an international version at this years' IFA trade show in Berlin.

Meanwhile, the international version of the Xperia ion has hit the Indian market. The ion also has a 4.6 inch screen of 720p resolution, but a 12 MP camera instead of the GX's 13 MP. It is currently available through Snapdeal.com for INR 36,000, or about €530.

News | Samsung holding an Unpacked event on August 29 at IFA

Samsung just announced its second Unpacked event for the month of August. For a traditional holiday month, August is shaping up as a rather busy months for us in the industry.

The newly announced event is due for the evening August 29, right before the IFA exhibition kicks off.

The other Unpacked event that we know about will take place in New York on August 15 supposedly to unveil the upgraded Galaxy Note 10.1 slate.

The Unpacked event on August 29 will take place in Tempodrom, Berlin just two days before the IFA kicks off. It will start at 7PM local time (GMT+1).

All the rumors suggest a Galaxy Note 2 announcement and the stylus/pen on the invitation is a further confirmation of this. The Galaxy Note 2 smartphone is rumored to pack a bigger 5.5-inch display smacked on top of the Galaxy S III hardware. The most interesting bit is that the 5.5-inch Note is supposed to keep the width of the original’s Note.
