Ubuntu Touch Developer Preview “sort of working” on Xperia S and Xperia T

Thursday, 28 February 2013

Canonical first revealed its mobile UI for Ubuntu called ‘Ubuntu Touch’ earlier this year. The mobile operating system is competing with other such mobile operating systems including Firefox OS and Tizen. Canonical recently released the Developer Preview for Ubuntu Touch supporting a whole host of new phones.
The good news for Sony Xperia fans is that this preview is running on both the Xperia S and Xperia T. There are currently three categories showing how well each preview is working: 1) Running fine, 2) Sort of working and 3) Work in progress. The Xperia devices are sitting in category two showing that good progress is being made. Obviously, this preview will only appeal to those who are curious on Ubuntu Touch – the OS has no apps and functionality is limited in its current state. You can keep an eye on progress here.

For our friends from across the pond who have to deal with dodgy carriers like Rogers, bell and AT&T, this may not work. Your carriers are precious people who dont want you to have your freedom. I can provide you with the fix if you can provide me with a stock FTF of your latest firmware update.
How to Report Bugs

Answer these questions.
1. Which version of the ROM did you download? Please provide the download link.
2. Are you on a locked or unlocked bootloader?
3. Which kernel are you on?

Android 4.1 Jelly Bean for 2012 Xperia devices rolling out from mid Q1 2013

Friday, 19 October 2012

Sony Mobile has this morning confirmed that Android 4.1 Jelly Bean for its new Xperia devices (Xperia T, Xperia TX and Xperia V) will start to receive the update from the middle of Q1 2013. Sony Xperia devices that launched earlier this year including the Xperia S, Xperia acro S, Xperia ion, Xperia P, Xperia go and Xperia J will be upgraded to Android 4.1 in “due course”. Looks like Xperia miro, Xperia tipo, Xperia tipo dual, Xperia sola and Xperia U users are excluded.
The release date for Jelly Bean is later than we expected, we had always assumed it would launch later this year. Recent owners of the Sony Xperia T/TX may feel the most annoyed especially since Sony said that the handsets will be “upgraded to Android version 4.1 (Jelly Bean) following launch“. We interpret ‘following launch’ as near enough immediately after release – certainly not four months later.
We suspect that the JB launch for the other 2012 Xperia models could take as long as early Q2 2013, given that no concrete information has been given. It’s hard not to commend Sony Mobile for updating many of its mid-range handsets along with their higher-end models. However, Xperia sola and Xperia U owners will rightfully be arguing why they won’t be seeing the update. It’s certainly not a question of hardware specification.
What we do know by now is that Android version upgrades are a slow and painful process for all manufacturers. There’s also every likelihood that Sony Mobile is hindered with the sheer volume of handsets it has released this year and last. Trying to update and certify a new Android version update for all of these handsets must be a logistical nightmare. Let’s hope that as time goes on, Sony gets better at releasing more timely updates.
Thanks Stojan!

News : Sony Xperia TX, T and V benchmark scores are here

Thursday, 30 August 2012

The Xperia TX, Xperia T and Xperia V are all of them running on dual-core processors, using the new Krait architecture and clocked at 1.5 GHz. There's still some doubt about the GPUs, but all three tested units reported rocking Adreno 225.
The Krait cores helped the three new Xperias pass the BenchmarkPi with flying colors - none of the quad-core smartphones currently on the market could come anywhere near their achievement. To be fair, though, BenchmarkPi doesn't make use of the multi-core architectures, so the dual-core Kraits have an advantage here.

  • Sony Xperia TX310
  • HTC One X (Tegra 3)338
  • Samsung Galaxy S III344
  • LG Optimus 4X HD350
  • Meizu MX 4-core362
The NenaMark 2 results of the Sony Xperia T, TX and V proves that the three new smartphones are Adreno 225-powered. The kind of framerates that the new Sony smartphones achieved are beyond the capabilities of any of the previous Qualcomm mobile GPUs.

  • HTC One X (Tegra 3)47.5
Finally, we come to the overall performance test with Quadrant and the Xperia trio made it three out of three against its quad-core rivals. An impressive achievement indeed.

News (IFA) Sony Xperia T: H2 flagship with 4.6-inch HD display and 13MP camera

Wednesday, 29 August 2012

Sony Mobile’s H2 flagship is clearly the Sony Xperia T (LT30p). Most of the marketing spend will be focused on this model and will feature in the upcoming James Bond film, Skyfall. The Xperia T will come with a 4.55-inch (720 x 1280) high resolution display and will be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 MSM8260A chipset with 1.5GHz dual-core processor and Adreno 225 GPU. Note that this is not the same as the Snapdragon S3 MSM8260 chipset found in the Xperia S.
The Xperia T will come with 16GB internal memory (2.5 GB of firmware, 2 GB of phone memory and 10.8 GB for media) but will support a microSD memory card. It has a 13MP camera capable of 1080p video and front camera capable of 720p video. Other features include NFC, MHL (the HDMI adaptor will be sold separately) and a 1850mAh capacity battery. Sony will also be selling a Xperia T TV Dock to connect the handset to a television.
The Sony Xperia T has dimensions of 129.4 x 67.3 x 9.35 mm and will weigh 139 grams. Sony says that the handset will be available globally in the next few weeks. It will come in three colours (black, silver and white).

The company also confirmed the Sony Xperia Tablet S which has been leaked so extensively recently. We’ll bring you more news on each of these products in separate posts shortly.

Leaked more photos of the Sony Xperia T (LT30p)

Tuesday, 7 August 2012

Sony Xperia TThe leaks of the Sony Xperia T (LT30p), codenamed Mint, are now coming in thick and fast. Nixanbal have the goods this time, publishing a whole host of live pictures of the handset. This was the same site that showed us some sample pics of the handset last month. There’s nothing new from what we saw in the last leak, but these are certainly some nicer pictures than the ones that Mobile-Review managed to take.
The Sony Xperia T is expected to be formally announced at IFA 2012 on 29 August. It is expected to sport a 4.6-inch (720 x 1280) display with on-screen buttons, 1.5GHz dual-core Snapdragon S4 chipset (MSM8960), 1GB RAM, 13MP camera capable of 1080p video recording, 720p front facing camera, 16GB of internal memory, memory card support, MHL output, NFC and a sealed battery.

News Sony Xperia T (LT30at) pops up in benchmark

Monday, 6 August 2012

The Sony LT30at, codenamed ‘Mint’ and believed to be marketed as the Xperia T has popped up in the AntuTu benchmark. The benchmark shows that the handset delivers a score of 7,012 running Android 4.0.4. It shows that it has a processor speed of 1.5GHz and the test was taken in the United States on 3 August 2012. This particular version of the Xperia T will be heading to AT&T in the United States and is believed to have a metallic back rather than the plastic construction of the international version (LT30p).
