Leaks : Sony ‘Yuga’ C660X gets extensive preview ahead of announcement

Tuesday, 18 December 2012

Mobile-Review has done it again, detailing a significant preview of an as-yet unreleased Sony Xperia handset. Their preview of the Sony C660X (C6603) ‘Yuga’ leaves no stone uncovered as it reveals pretty much everything about the handset, however it’s worth noting that this preview is based on a prototype.
First of all, let’s talk specs. The Yuga has a 5-inch 1080p display that will be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro chipset (APQ8064 & MDM9615) with 1.5GHz quad-core processor and Adreno 320 GPU. It will come with 2GB RAM, a microSD memory card slot (we’re not sure what internal storage this has, if any), LTE and a 13MP camera. The prototype previewed was running Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean.

News : Sony Yuga (C660X): A couple more photos unveiled

Sunday, 16 December 2012

Russian site Mobile-Review has revealed a couple of photos of the upcoming Sony Yuga (C6603). It doesn’t reveal anything new as we had already seen some leaked photos of the handset a while back. However, author Eldar Murtazin, normally known for his disdain of Sony Mobile products has sung the praises of the prototype Yuga.
“Each technological revolution leads to a totally fantastic device that we could not ask for a few more decades,” Eldar says (translated). He goes on to say that the large dispolay and powerful Qualcomm chipset “makes a fabulous combination”. His main criticism comes in the form of how hot the handset can become, “warm as a stove” is how the author describes it. Hopefully, we’ll hear more on the handset in the coming weeks.

News : Sony’s 2013 flagship will have a glass-back, is this a deal-breaker for you?

Tuesday, 11 December 2012

Sony Mobile’s new flagship to be launched during Q1 2013 is expected to have a glass front and back. This is pretty much a given for the handset codenamed Yuga (C660X). We have this confirmed by our own sources, along with the photo leaks a while back. The question we have today is how much of a hindrance is this for you?
The most popular example of a phone with a glass back is the Apple iPhone 4/4S and there’s no denying that it had abnormally high faults related to people cracking the back of the phone. There’s a good reason why phones don’t normally come with glass backs and that comes down to practicality. Knowing a phone has a glass back means placing it down that much more carefully and probably means a case or bumper is an essential accessory for many.
We’ve started to hear similar stories over the LG Nexus 4. Reports suggest that placing the handset on a cold surface, such as a kitchen granite surface, can cause the glass to crack after it has been held in a warm hand. There’s no denying that it gives the handset a premium look, but in your view is the aesthetics worth what you end up losing in terms of practicality? Or does it not bother you since you use a case for your phone anyway? We’d love to hear your thoughts on this in the comments below.

news: Sony C6603 ‘Yuga’ pictures leak

Wednesday, 7 November 2012

Sony will not be happy about this at all, but pictures of the Sony C660X (C6603) handset (codenamed Yuga) have leaked. There are seven pictures in total and everything we have been told by our sources up until now, suggest that these pictures are the real deal.
The site that has leaked the pictures, Android Schweiz, claims Yuga will come with a 1.5GHz quad-core processor, 2GB RAM, a surprising 12MP camera (we always thought 13MP Exmor RS was pretty much a dead cert) and a 5-inch 1080p display. The camera may be upgraded by the time it comes to launch though.
The Yuga comes in a unibody enclosure, therefore do not expect to be able to replace the battery. It will also be the first Sony Xperia phone to come with a glass back, similar to the iPhone 4/4S. The handset design looks elegant with a boxy shape (no arc or NXT features here) and a very thin bezel either side of the display. It has a striking chrome power button on the right side with volume rocker in the middle. A dedicated camera button is also present where you’d expect it to be.
As can be seen in the pictures below, this prototype is running Android 4.1.1, a new kernel version (3.4) as well as 10.1.A.0.XXX firmware, which we already know is Jelly Bean. It all looks like a very nice package indeed and we can’t wait to see/hear more. So, would you buy it?
