[News][ROM]Toshiba Folio 100 gets Android 4.1 update @CYANOGENMOD (unofficially)

Toshiba released the Folio 100 tablet in 2010. It was one of the company’s first Android devices and it shipped with a 1 GHz NVIDIA Tegra 2 dual core processor, a 10 inch, 1024 x 600 pixel display, and Android 2.2 software.

While the Toshiba Folio 100 was canceled a while ago and Toshiba hasn’t offered a software update in a while, there’s an active community of independent developers making up for the oversite, and now there’s an unofficial build of Android 4.1 Jelly Bean available for the aging tablet.

There are currently two different builds of Android 4.1 for the tablet.

Xda-developers forum member Atheros has ported CyanogenMod 10 to run on the Folio 100. This is a custom version of Android 4.1.1 Jelly Bean which is still under development.

The Folio 100 build is also under development. There are problems with WiFi, some display glitches, and other problems. But Atheros is still working to squash some of those bugs.

Meanwhile, developer DerArtem has also ported CyanogenMod 10. This build doesn’t support audio over Bluetooth, and the digital compass and a few ohter items aren’t working.

Rockchips RK2918 Tablets To Get Android 4.0 Ice-Cream Sandwich

Great news! All of you who have happened to buy a Chinese tablet which has a Rockchips RK2918 processor (or Tegra 2 CPU and Samsung CPU) may well be get a lovely Ice-Cream Sandwich update in the coming months!

Rockchips have confirmed the RK2918 cpu found in many Chinese made Android tablets is more than capable of running Android 4.0 and see no reason why tablets currently running Android 2.3 can’t be upgraded to Android 4.0.

Of course this means we still have to wait for the various manufacturers to roll out an Ice-cream Sandwich update for our tablets, or for a universal ROM to appear, but the fact is it is likely to happen!

This news also goes on to prove that we are likely going to see a huge number of well priced and very well made Ice-cream Sandwich tablets appearing out of China this coming year, which may put some pressure on the big boys compared to previous months.

The First Ice Cream Sandwich Android Tablet Surfaces In China

Right now the only way to officially taste Ice Cream Sandwich on a device is on the Galaxy Nexus. Google stated that it would eventually hit tablets. Well, the wait is over. Somewhere in the bowels of China the first ICS tablet has appeared. It’s a Xoom clone powered by slightly-dated hardware but it’s running 4.0.1. That’s all that counts.

The story goes that the tab shown here (and in the video after the jump) is the first 4.0.1 tablet. AsShanzhaiben and GizChina notes, the 10.1-inch tablet is a bit of a Xoom knockoff but sports respectable internal components. 1GB of RAM and a Tegra 2 chip powers the device. There’s 16GB of storage, dual cams, GPS, HDMI, a 7000mAh battery, and a 3G SIM card slot.

Looks good, right? Well, you can’t buy it yet. The company has yet to release pricing or a release date. But prepare yourself. The onslaught of Ice Cream Sandwich tablets is almost upon us. CES will be here in less than 45 days and you’re going to get fat from all the Ice Cream Sandwich’s pouring out of the Las Vegas Convention Center.
