China’s Thinnest Smartphone Vivo X1 Rips Off iPhone 5’s Two-Tone Design (video)

Wednesday, 21 November 2012

sdfww

Chinese famous DVD player maker BBK just launches a smartphone in Beijing. As expected, Vivo X1 is an audio focused smartphone with a super slim body at 6.55mm, which means it took over OPPO Finder as the world’s thinnest smartphone. We’re saying it looks like an iPhone 5 is because its back cover’s design reminds us all the previous iPhone 5’s rumors — two-tone design and the tear-drop design. Furthermore, Vivo X1 also comes with an iTune-like UI and Siri-like voice assistant. If you wish to know more, check it out after the break.

BBK’s launch event was held at Beijing National Aquatics Center (a.k.a. Water Cube). It’s an aquatics center that was built for the swimming competitions of the 2008 Summer Olympics. And now, it can be booked for commercial use.

This is what it looks like inside the launch event.

Specs wise, it features a 4.7-inch qHD (960×540) display, a 1.2GHz MTK6577T dual-core processor, 1GB of RAM, 16GB of internal storage, 1.3 2.0 megapixel front facing camera, 8.0 MP rear shooter, a 2,000 mAh battery that support wireless charging, support GSM 850, 900, 1800, 1900 and WCDMA 2100. There’s no microSD card slot for internal memory expansion, and there’s no words on whether BBK will launch a the device with 32GB capacity. In addition, it runs Android 4.1 Jelly bean with a customized interface.

On its facade, the front-facing camera locates on the top right corner.

With its back, its chassis features tear-drop design and the iPhone 5-like two-tone design.

Aforementioned, BBK’s Vivo X1 is an audio-focused smartphone. Vivo X1 has adopted audio chipset CS4398+CS8422 from a U.S-based company called Cirrus Logic, making it the world’s first smartphone that has a S/N Ratio of 100dB. Noteworthy, Cirrus Logic’s audio processors and audio converters can be found in many professional audio and consumer entertainment products. It would be interesting to see how it performs on this device.

To pair up with the device’s quality audio performance, BBK also offers three kinds of high quality headphones including Beyerdynamic MMX 71iE, AKG K420 and Sennheiser CX215 for customers to choose when purchasing the device. Furthermore, BBK has cooperated with Baidu to provide music download services for Vivo X1’s users.

BBK invited four American singers to the launch event to perform a live concert in order to test out Vivo X1’s audio recording quality.

Vivo X1 is available in black and white color. It’s now on sale through Suning electronics andVivo’s online store at 2,498 yuan (US$403). The device will start offering by other Chinese stores in December. There’s no words on international shipping. Although it’s now the world thinnest smartphone, we think it is overpriced. At this price point, there’re better options like Xiaomi and Meizu. Since we are not audio enthusiast, we are not sure if that’s worth for just audio part.
In this event, we’re disappointed that we couldn’t see BBK’s high-end version Vivo smartphone. It’s allegedly to come with a 5-inch 1080p display and Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro quad-core chip. Hopefully, it will arrive before Chinese New Years.

News Goophone I5 - 4 Inch Screen Quad-core CPU 8MP Camera Android Phone

Thursday, 30 August 2012

 Goophone I5
The (digital world) pirates certainly know what tickles our fancy, with the iPhone 5 yet to be released or even announced (that will have to wait until this September), but surprise, surprise, they have already come up with a knockoff that is Android-powered, now how about that? I am quite sure if the Apple legal eagles are through with the manufacturer of this handset, they won’t be able to get as much as $1 billion from them.
This iPhone 5 replica will most likely be released before the real deal, and it will in no way run on the iOS platform. The entire irony of the situation is that this is powered by the Android operating system, although I am not quite sure of the dock connectors that it relies on to hook up to an external computer, if possible. Do bear in mind that what you see above could very well be just a render, so it might not even be an actual device in existence.

After successfully rooted, it will install rootexplorer.apk Chinese version which is rather useless for installing Market because it's all in Chinese. Thus, you need to download this "ES File Explorer" in order to put Go/gle Pla9 into system folder.

Here is how to install Google Play Store:

0. Download "Vending-3.5.19 MOD - noupdate.norestrictions-aligned" from the same mediafire folder abo6e.

8. If everything is ok, excepted IMEI was missing, download IMEI Changer Tool from here: IMEI Changer For Mtk6575
9. Unrar, install the program and run SN_STATION, which can be found on your desktop. Follow the instruction in the Chinese manual, but we only need to follow the picture in that manual.
The file "Modem Database" and "AP Database" is in firmware folder. You need to choose exactly the file that you see in the picture.
10. Write down two IMEIs on the back of your phone ( you need to take the battery out to see it ).
11. Again turn off your phone and take the battery out, then plug the phone into your PC, but this time we need to put the battery back in very quickly as soon as we see:
"COM port searching and preloader handshake ok" on SN Writer Log.
11. Wait until "Write Result Indicator" becomes green, then the IMEI has changed successfully.

OR you can try to change your IMEIs by using ZOPO IMEI ( Thanks to colouriste )

1. REMOVE SIM CARD(S) FIRST !
2. Check "Dual Imei"

Tips + Tricks:

1. Thanks mikeysteele: "One thing I noticed after installing SetCPU is the kernel defaults to the Performance Governor. This means the CPU is always running at the maximum frequency so that might explain the poor battery life. I changed it to the On Demand governor and my battery life has improved."

2-a. Thanks angelobiz: For remove old, hidden driver you can see this: http://www.tech-recipes.com/rx/504/h...-and-services/

2-b. Thanks caviar44: This is a tool to remove old drivers: USBDeview v2.11. Just right click on driver instance and then choose "uninstall selected devices".

News | Apple took inspiration from Sony when designing the iPhone

Sunday, 29 July 2012

Sony has a great design heritage, us Xperia owners know that having used some great mobile handsets over the last few years. This includes the Xperia NXT handsets, Xperia arc (a design classic in our eyes), Xperia mini and Xperia ray. Also who can forgot one of the brilliant Sony Ericsson handsets, the T68i. However, Sony has a history of great design overall, whether it be for their slim Walkmans, the monolithic Bravia TVs or their Vaio laptops.
Given this legacy, it is interesting to note that Apple took inspiration from Sony when designing the iPhone. This information has surfaced in the ongoing patent infringement battle between Samsung and Apple. Samsung’s argument is that even if they did take inspiration on some aspects of their mobile design from Apple, Apple has done the same in the past and that this practise is commonplace in the consumer electronics market.
An Apple designer, Shin Nishibori, was asked to create “Sony-like” concepts of phones that carried the name “SONY” and “JONY”. The pictures were created around a year before the iPhone first appeared.
It is public knowledge that Steve Jobs admired Sony and when brain-storming ideas for the iPhone he even asked one of the designers: “What would Sony do?” It’s quite clear from looking at the pictures that these concepts look nothing like any Sony products that were on the market at the time and in fact they bear a stronger resemblance to the iPhone 4.
Let’s hope that Sony continues this strong emphasis on design, which many have looked up to, in future Xperia handsets. Both Apple and Samsung will begin their trial in front of a jury on Monday 30 July. The case is 11-01846 in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California in San Jose.
