Xiaomi Shout Out For Being the Next #GoogleTv for China

hinese device maker Xiaomi plans to launch an Android-powered set-top-box in December. It’s basically a device with the guts of an Android phone, which you can plug into your TV to watch videos, play games, or run other Android apps.

Xiaomi will charge about $64 for the device, and there’s a limited-time offer where existing Xiaomi customers can pik one up for just $48. But the Xiaomi box is only expected to be available in China.

The device features an 800 MHz ARM Cortex-A9 processor and 1GB of RAM. It has a 10/100 Ethernet jack and 802.11b/g/n WiFi as well as HDMI output and a micro USB port.

Xiaomi says the box can handle most media formats including VOB, MOV, WMV, MP4, MKV, and RMVB. It also supports wireless streaming standards including DLNA, Miracast, and Apple Airplay, which means you can use it to stream content from your phone or another device.

The operating system is based on Xiaomi’s custom MIUI version of Google Android.

News : Google Play Music, Movies now available on Google TV devices

Google is taking another step to bridge the divide between its Android and Google TV platforms. You can already download some Android apps on a Google TV set-top-box using the Play Store. Starting today you’ll also be able to access the Google Play music and movie stores.

Just like on Android phone or tablet, you can now purchase music and stream it from the web using a Google TV device. You can also rent or purchase movies or TV shows.

Google is also adding Google Play media to its TV & Movies search app, so when you’re looking for a title you’ll get results from live and recorded TV broadcasts as well as Google Play, Amazon, Netflix, or other apps.

Content you’ve previously purchased using another device will also automatically be accessible via Google TV.

Since Google TV is basically a redesigned version of Android built for television displays rather than phones and tablets, the only really surprising thing about today’s move is that it took so long for Google to make it.

The company says the software update rolling out today also lets app developers offer automatic updates, subscription billing, and “smart app updates,” which means that users won’t have to re-download the entire app every time there’s a new version. Instead they’ll just download the updates, which helps conserve bandwidth.

SMIT has released the TCC8925 solution for Google TV

The Google TV based on Android OS is a computer case.

The Google TV box from Shenzhen is so cheap. With the cheap price, it can be used for many industries such as the outdoor LED screen, education system, hotel and family TV.

The Google TV from Shenzhen SMIT is based on Telechips TCC8925 solution which supports high-definition video playback.

Configurations: TCC8925 chip, A5 core, 1GHz frequency, 512M memory, 4GB FLASH storage

The configurations are similar with the configurations of tablet PC but the structure is simpler. It does not have touch screen, battery and speaker that it is so cheap.   

The PCBA for the Google TV box sells for about $41.2.
