News : Details for Nexus 7 Leak Out Ahead of Google I/O

And so it begins, the leaky pipes that lead up to Google I/O are beginning to show themselves and what’s inside as well. This time around its all about the Nexus 7, the name that I’m sure we’re going to hear a lot about this week at I/O. Gizmodo Australia have had a look at some training documents that detail the tablet in more detail than we’ve been privy to before.
The training document that the outfit received detailed a couple of things about both the hardware and also the wider picture concerning software and updates.
Hardware wise, the tablet is going to built by ASUS – just in case you didn’t know already – and is going to have a Tegra 3 quad-core processor at 1.3Ghz couple with a 12-core GeForce GPU. This is but together with an IPS panel display at a resolution of 1280×800 with 178-degree viewing angles, as far as storage goes there’s going to be two options of 8GB and 16GB setting you back $199 and $249, respectively. Along for the ride is a 1.2 MP front-facing camera with no rear-facing camera detailed. As an intriguing bonus of sorts, is the inclusion of NFC and Android beam, this is probably going to be for Google Wallet in the US, for the few that still support it that is.
The price point is going to be the real hitter here as, if you ask me, most of the Kindle Fire’s success leads to its insane pricing. The idea of getting a more than capable tablet with access to vast amounts of content for that kind of money was crazy only a year or so ago. Now, it looks like Google is not only going to try and solidify their mark in the budget tablet sector, but in the tablet sector full stop. With a Tegra 3 at that speed and quality hardware from ASUS it’ll far surpass most people’s uses and expectations. Hell, it’s a lot faster than the A100 I paid close to $300 for only last year.
Concerning the software the document is said to have detailed that the Nexus 7 is indeed going to ship with Jelly Bean but, no version number was listed. It also notes that Google will be handling software updates from here on, this is most likely going to be aimed at updates for the Nexus 7 and not the wider-range of handsets and tablets out there. Or, perhaps the Android Update Alliance from last year is being revived from the dead?
