Motorola XOOM Get Android 4.03 :: How To :: Installation Include

Saturday, 17 December 2011

Motorola XOOM with Android 4.0.3
Google released Android 4.0.3 Ice Cream Sandwich this week, and independent developers started kicking the tires right away. It turns out that the software is already pretty much compatible with the Motorola XOOM tablet, and xda-developers forum member razorbladex401 has released a custom ROM for the tablet based on the latest version of Android.
The Motorola XOOM was the first tablet to run Google Android 3.0, and it’s still the closest thing available to an official Google Android developer tablet. SO it’s not surprising that it’s one of the first to support Android 4.0.3.
Motorola and Google will probably push out an official over-the-air software update for the tablet int he coming weeks or months. For now, the unofficial ROM supports most of the tablet’s hardware and offers pretty strong performance. Out of the box it doesn’t yet support the cameras, and the software doesn’t include the Android Market, Gmail app, or other Google apps, but you can install them manually using ClockworkMod Recovery.
If that sounds like too much work (of if you really need functional cameras), you might want to wait for the official release.

FLASH AT YOUR OWN RISK.

These are just the images. It's not an update package. Use fastboot to flash. The camera does not work. There seems to be a green overlay from time to time. There are some missing proprietary binaries that Motorola will have to release.

I haven't tested it out much. Just finished the build and uploaded.

Update #1:

I included the recovery image. Probably don't need to install that.

Update #2
Running another build (kicked it off at 10:10 PM EST). Going to see if I can fix the "green" issue. Stay tuned.

Update #3
There was an issue with my device tree. The green overlay is gone. Still no camera. Download second build. Removed the Honeycomb bootloader. Has the regular old android bootloader.

Update #4
Created CWM flashable package. I've only tested it using Rogue XM Recovery 1.3.0, but it should work with CWM. Ignore the Offset error. Will still boot. Don't forget to do a wipe of your data and cache.

Update #5 (12-17-11)
Thanks to anidrin for posting a link to root. I have confirmed that it works. Install through CWM.

Install:

fastboot -w
fastboot flash boot boot.img
fastboot flash system system.img

CyanogenMod 9 Alpha for Xperia arc pegged for next week

The FreeXperia developer team are working round the clock on CyanogenMod 9(based on Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich). They have confirmed that the first Alpha release should hit at some point next week. The alpha ROM will be available on the Xperia arc only at this stage and is still under heavy development according to FreeXperia developer FXP.
There are three major bugs that the devs are trying to iron out including GSM Data, Camera and Mass Storage. If they can get the ROM stable, they will release the alpha to the public during week 50 (i.e. next week). Not too long to wait for those who love tinkering with new ROMs. We’ve attached the latest screenshots of the CM9 ROM after the break.

[DEV][WIP][[ROM]ICS For X8 V005

Sunday, 4 December 2011

Thanks goes to stelios97 for the x10 mini ics port, nobodyAtall, alfsamsung and doixanh for their awesome kernels, fifo171 for testing on X8 (stelious97's rom), troufiniou and n1kolaa who are currently developing this rom and to all the ICS testers as well as those who PM-ed me asking if they could help. Thanks guys  !

stelious 97's thread

troufiniou's thread

n1kolaa's thread

Requirements:

unlocked bootloader (stock kernel will not work: bootloops)
custom kernel : nAa kernel/alfs kernel/linuxdx kernel
rooted phone
latest firmware and baseband (xxxx015)

What's Working:
Touchscreen (synaptics users ONLY for now)
Charging
Hard buttons (Thnx to tony-noob )
Vibrate (With the nAa/alfs Kernel)
Sound (???)
SD Card Readable (V005)
LED (V005)
GSM (V005) (Can recieve calls and SMS but cant send sms and make calls )
Brightness (V005)

What isn't working :
Pretty much everything else

Installation Instructions:

Unlock Bootloader
For advanced users
For n00bs like me

Flash nAa kernel/alfs kernel/ linuxdx

Diclaimer : I can't be held responsible if this rom bricks, destroys or screws up your phone  flash at your own risk ! ALWAYS MAKE A BACKUP BEFORE FLASHING !!!!!! If you do have problems, PM me and I'll help

Video was done by jahlovePL  thnx mate

Screenshots by 72andrew72 thnx bro !

Primary objectives : Fix network coverage, wifi, bluetooth, camera, basically everything and compatibility for cypress users (hang in there guys)

If you're not happy with this rom, simply full wipe, wipe cache, wipe data and restore your backup ! As for the kernel, you can use any kernel you prefer.

P.S.

1. I am not a developer. I am merely providing info and links based on troufiniou and n1kolaa's progress. All credits go to them and the testers.

2. This rom only works with synaptics digitizer users. As tony-noob tested, cypress users can't use their screens  sry guys.

3. According to fifo171, along with many other things such as wifi, bluetooth, camera, the usb and sdcard aren't working as well.

Let's all have a blast with this  !
