News HTC Incredible S gets the love of seeing an Android 4.0 ICS update

Monday, 2 July 2012

Wow, it seems as though all the smartphone manufacturers needed a nudge from Google to finally release some Ice Cream Sandwich updates. After Google unveiled its Android 4.1 Jelly Bean platform last week, we’ve been seeing quite a few smartphones getting their long awaited ICS updates. So far, we’ve seen the Motorola DROID RAZR, Sony Xperia mini, and Motorola RAZR get their updates for ICS, but now we can include the aging HTC Incredible S.

Yes folks, you heard that right! The aging HTC Incredible S, which is essentially the same as the HTC Droid Incredible 2 for Verizon, is surprisingly getting its tasty helping of dessert in the form of an ICS software update. Specifically, it updates the handset’s software toAndroid 4.0.4, and from the looks of it, owners are treated to version 3.6 of HTC’s Sense interface.

Aging HTC Incredible S gets the love of seeing an Android 4.0 ICS update
Of course, it’s not the most up-to-date version of Sense, which is what we see running on devices like the HTC One X, but nevertheless, HTC Sense 3.6 is still going to please a lot of Incredible S owners. It might not have the cool 3D and transition effects found with Sense 4.0, but at least it boasts nearly all of the core functionality we’d expect to find.

Right now, it seems like unlocked versions of the smartphone are the first to see the update, which happens to clock in at 250MB in size – meaning, Wi-Fi connectivity might be the optimal choice for downloading it. However, it’s unknown at this point if its CDMA sibling in the HTC Droid Incredible 2 for Verizon Wireless will be seeing the same love.

NEWS : HTC releases its Android 4.0 update roadmap

Wednesday, 23 May 2012

HTC has released a list of phones that they will be updating to Android 4.0 this year. Along with the names of the phones, they also mention the time period during which you can expect the update to arrive for the respective handsets.
From the list, the only phones that have already received the update or are in the process of receiving it are the fourSensation handsets and the HTC Vivid. Other noteworthy phones in the list includes the EVO 3D and Rezound, which will get the update by June-July and the Thunderbolt, which will get the update by July-August.
It's also nice to see older phones like the Desire S and theIncredible S on the list as well, with both getting the update by June-July. What's even more surprising is the presence of the Desire HD in the list, a phone that launched back in 2010 that will soon be rocking the latest version of Android. Kudos to HTC for that.
All handsets that get Android 4.0 will also be upgraded to Sense 3.6.
HTC has also mentioned which devices won't be updated to ICS. This includes phones like the ChaCha, Salsa, Wildfire S and Explorer. It also includes HTC's tablets, namely the Flyer, EVO View 4G and the Jetstream. HTC has clarified that despite not getting the next version of Android, these devices will continue to receive software updates and support.

HTC Desire HD, Incredible S and ChaCha getting Android 2.3.5

Monday, 12 December 2011

HTC UK have confirmed that the 2.3.5 update has been released in the UK for the Incredible S and Desire HD, which will get some good Sense 3.0 loving along with all the bug fixes and optimizations in the update.
While the update has been confirmed for the UK only we've received reports from other European countries as well, so be sure to check your Desire HD for an update even if you live outside the UK.
Reportedly the HTC ChaCha has been also getting an OTA update to 2.3.5 (at least in New Zealand) but its Sense version has remained on 2.1. We'll update as soon as we get some official information.
